training in Bible from a One New Man perspective
ACTS was founded in the mid-'80's to train men and women in the Christian faith, Bible, and spiritual ministry to others. It is evangelical, non-denominational, and "One New Man" in orientation and open to the full expression of the gifts of the Spirit. Students from several countries are represented, and traditional degree programs are available. Cost is $100 per credit-hour; families connected with Way of the Lord Church, the Gathering Unto Him revival meetings, or Northside Christian School receive 10% discount on tuition.
Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
ACTS has been training students in Bible and preparation for Christian ministry since 1986.
What is your primary product or service?
We seek to be Christ-centered in equipping the Body for "One New Man" service in the modern world until He returns with the Kingdom.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
All ACTS faculty have served as pastors or teachers in previous ministry settings -- we share backgrounds from a variety of viewpoints (Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, Pentecostal, Messianic, Methodist, Charismatic, Evangelical), but embrace biblical essentials as the "core" of what we believe and who we are.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
One of our key distinctives is our recognition that God is about to bring a spiritual awakening to Israel, creating a convergence between believing Jews and the Christian Church as "One New Man" in union with Jesus as Messiah. We affirm the total authority of Scripture as God's Word, but also affirm the work of the Holy Spirit today as remaining in place until the Lord's return.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
ACTS formerly has had campuses in Eden Prairie, Brooklyn Park, Mexico, and Monrovia, Liberia. At present, its sole location is in Blaine, Minnesota.
Provide detailed directions to your location
ACTS is located on the campus of Way of the Lord (formerly Way of the Cross) church in Blaine. Traveling north from Minneapolis one takes 100 to 252 to 610 to University Ave. up to Main St./125th Ave./Cty. 14, then right/east 1/2 mile to Jefferson and then left/north on Jefferson to 131st. A right-hand turn then leads to the campus a block away, at 804 131st Ave. NE in Blaine.
What type of payments do you accept?
The school has credit transfer agreements with University of Northwestern -- St. Paul and Crown College in St. Bonifacius, but has chosen not to align with regional accrediting agencies or their federal requirements for the sake of fuller academic freedom. To offset not thereby being available for traditional loan programs, ACTS has made its costs significantly lower (in some cases 90% lower) than private and public-secular educational institutions. A student therefore can pay each semester as they go, without the need for loan indebtedness during the duration of their studies.
Which areas do you service?
ACTS has served students from Kenya, Japan, Liberia, Viet Nam, Germany, Ireland, India, Native America (Navajo Nation), Mexico, Ecuador, Brazil, Ethiopia, Sudan, Russia, Australia, Togo, South Africa, and of course the U.S. About one-third of the students are of international origin and about 2/3 are from the U.S. (most from the Midwest, from 18 to 80 and all ages in between).
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
The school was founded by an independent charismatic fellowship in Eden Prairie in the 1980's and was purchased by Way of the Cross church in Blaine in the summer of 2006, just prior to the start of the "Gathering Unto Him" revival meetings that began that fall (and have been continuing ever since). The school president is Don Pfotenhauer; chair of the board and senior pastor of the church is Larry Alberts; and the academic dean is Dr. Lance Wonders.
What are your hours of operation?
ACTS primarily follows a mid-September to early June school year, with fall, winter, and spring semesters each year on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Occasional night classes and summer school classes are also offered. Independent study options are available for B.Div., M.Div., and M.Theol.Studies enrollees as well.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
"You helped me to find, and increase in, a better understanding of God's truth and His will for my life."
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
"God works all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28)
